As an audiologist dedicated to helping others live better by hearing their best, Derina Sarah Boothroyd, Au.D., draws inspiration from her own family’s experience with hearing loss and strives to leave no stone unturned in improving patients’ ability to communicate. “I think it’s so important,” says Dr. Boothroyd, “that we, as audiologists, perform above and beyond just providing someone with amplification.”
Dr. Boothroyd earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst before becoming a certified veterinary technician and eventually returning to school for her clinical doctorate in audiology. During graduate school, she continued to work as a veterinary technician and a research assistant, and she performed her fourth-year Au.D. residency at a busy Springfield, MA, ENT practice.
When not helping community members along their better-hearing journey, the Amherst native enjoys life in Portland with her longtime companion, Tyler; fat cat, Jeffrey; and 12-year-old pooch, Varitek, who still acts like a puppy. She also loves rooting for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins and has enjoyed getting to see some Portland Sea Dogs baseball games.
